WHOS-IN Pro - Vista issues:

Windows Vista present some new problems when attempting to register an OCX or DLL due to Vista's UAC (User Access Control). For example: If you attempt to run the WHOS-IN ADMIN program, and the MSINET.OCX file has not been registered, you will see the following error:

The file is actually neither missing OR invalid - it just not registered correctly.

Follow the steps below to correctly register an OCX or DLL.

NOTE: This applies even if you are logged on as an Administrator of the machine.

Click on the Windows START button to display the START SEARCH dialog box then type CMD into Search (but do NOT press ENTER). If you do, you won't be running in Admin mode.

At the top of the search results window, you should now see :

* RIGHT CLICK on CMD.EXE at the top of the screen to display a Pop-Up menu.

* Choose the RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR option.

You should now see the command window appear:

Into the command window, you can now REGISTER a DLL or OCX. Example: REGSVR32 \\YourServer\YourShare\PathToWhosIn\MSINET.OCX (Substitute the above with the PATH to the WHOS-IN folder on your server, and the name of the OCX you want to register. (Ensure you have a SPACE between REGSVR32 and the double backslash)

Example:

Assuming you have the correct path to the file, you should now see something like:

If you attempt to register a DLL and you have NOT started CMD in Administrator mode, here's what you get:
